Greetings to the Reader

In the current phase of the education reform, institutions of higher education are increasing their emphasis on improving the quality of education. The expanding opportunities for training place existing institutions in a competition for students. Students choose their schools based on the quality of training, the value of the diploma, and the surroundings of the institution.

The instructors and employees of the Faculty of Forestry of the University of West Hungary have confidence when they concentrate on the challenges ahead. The legal predecessors of the Faculty of Forestry are the Academy of Selmecbánya, founded in 1735, and the forestry training at the same place which started in 1808. We are very proud of the “Selmec” heritage, the high level theoretical training, the importance of practice, versatility, the national character, our mutual responsibility, and sense of duty. We support the successful participation in group work and the integration of arts, literature, music and fitness into the students’ daily life. Our faculty is developing dynamically, with continuous renewal. This is the way it tries to be a stable element of the common European educational region, while maintaining its national character. During our work we follow the demands of the students and we utilize their suggestions.

We would like to help you to get to know the educational training work at the Faculty of Forestry here in Sopron, and to give you a picture of our 5 courses of study.   We want to prove the value of your future diploma.   I do trust that these things are close to your expectations and ideas.   I am aware that a freedom of choice exists, but I hope that you will find the courses of the Faculty of Forestry here in Sopron, the most suitable for your future career.

Prof. dr. András NÁHLIK
